RouteJury is a small editorial bench. Every title here is driven on the same mid-range Android phone, over the same three stages, with the assists wound down one step at a time. We write about what you feel through the glass — steering rate, weight transfer, how long a run actually takes, and how much of the garage is open from the first session.
Bench sheet
One sheet, six cars. Surface tells you what you will be driving on, control model tells you what your thumbs will be doing, and typical run is the honest answer to “have I time for one more?”

Six titles made the sheet out of a longer shortlist: each one had to be free to install, playable on a four-year-old handset, and different enough from the others to hold its row. Ratings in the cards below are the Google Play figures for the Irish store on the day we wrote this page; the verdict column is ours.

Sealed roads, a festival paddock and a car list that opens as you drive rather than as you scroll menus. The steering sits between arcade and simulation: lift off mid-corner and the rear rotates, but the assists catch the slide before it turns into a spin. Most events are done inside four minutes, and the setup screen lets you shift the balance towards acceleration or grip without reading a spreadsheet.

A side-on pixel garage where most of the work happens with the bonnet up. You swap turbos, gearboxes and internals, then put the result on the dyno to see what the change actually did. A pass on the strip is over in under a minute, so the loop is build, test, adjust, repeat.

Gravel stages with the best dust and the longest suspension travel of the six. The wheel widget has a wide sweep, which suits fourth-gear corners and exposes late braking on the tight ones. Stages run three to five minutes — long enough that surface choice and pacing start to matter.

The most demanding car model on the sheet. Weight transfer is modelled hard enough that you steer with the throttle as much as with the wheel, and both clutch and handbrake sit on the overlay. Switch the racing line off and the forest stages become a genuine navigation exercise. Budget four to six minutes a stage and a slow first hour.

Short slide-focused runs across dirt, hill climbs and tarmac loops, with a cockpit camera that shows the hands working the wheel. Scoring favours a held drift over a tidy line, so the technique you build here is deliberately different from the stage games. Restarts are instant, which makes it the easiest of the six to open for five minutes.

Point-to-point stages in the classic mould — snow, gravel and a small grid of period cars. Tilt steering with three assist steps is the default, and the middle setting is the honest one: enough help to keep the nose pointed, not enough to hide a bad entry. The LITE build keeps the stage list short, which makes it a fine place to learn braking points.

Four things readers ask before they install anything — answered the way we would answer them across the pit wall.
It has to install at no cost from Google Play, run on a four-year-old handset, and offer something the other five do not already cover. From there it goes through the same three stages — a tarmac loop, a gravel climb and a mixed-surface run — with the assists stepped down one notch per attempt. Titles whose steering never settles under braking, or that keep the whole track list behind a locked door, quietly drop off the list before they reach the sheet.
The stars are copied from Google Play exactly as the Irish store shows them, and not one of those figures is ours. Our own judgement sits in the write-up beside each car: how fast the wheel answers, how much weight moves across the axles under braking, how long a stage really holds you. Store scores drift from week to week, so read the number as the reading on the day this page was written.
Three of the six will run a full stage with the handset in flight mode, and two more keep their stage list offline while only the event boards ask for a connection. Rally Horizon is the one that leans on being online, and that is for its shared events rather than for the driving itself. The physics, the track list and the length of a run do not change either way — the Offline column on the starting grid says which title is which.
One mid-range Android handset does all of it: a 60 Hz screen, thumbs only, no controller and no cooling rig holding the frame rate up. That is deliberate, because a stage that stays smooth on modest hardware is the one you can actually finish on the bus.
